He also operated the 900-room Forum Hotel in London, one of the top profit contributors to the IHC/Forum Group.

Barter spent the early part of his career in Southern France and Switzerland where he worked at such renowned properties as Hotel Negresco in Nice and the Hotel Beau Rivage in Geneva. He also worked at the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg and the Hotel Kempinski Berlin prior to returning to the UK to open the London Tara Hotel.

A native of Ireland, Barter graduated from Presentation College, Cork, Ireland and the Goethe-Institut, Munich. He also attended Cornell University and Michigan State University. He is fluent in English, French and German. Barter`s professional affiliations include membership of the Chaine des Rotisseurs and the American Society of Travel Agents.
